EP 329 - If Social Media Feels Like a Full-Time Job… Do This Instead - Part 3/5 Marketing Series

If social media feels like a full-time job… you’re not alone and you might just be using it the wrong way.

In Part 3 of this 5-part free marketing series, I’m breaking down how to simplify social media so it actually works for your coaching business without overwhelm, burnout, or feeling like you have to constantly perform.

If you’re new to my channel, my name is Debbie Shadid. I’m a Business Growth and Life Coach and the founder of the Business Building Boutique. For over two decades, I’ve helped women build simple, profitable coaching businesses without relying on tech overwhelm, paid ads, or complicated funnels.

In this episode, we’re reframing what social media is really for.

Not for going viral.
Not for chasing likes.
But for visibility and connection.

You’ll walk away knowing:

  • what social media is actually meant to do in your coaching business

  • how to show up consistently without overcomplicating your content

  • why your message matters more than your posts being perfect

  • how to use social media to build trust and attract the right clients

Social media is not about performing.
It’s about being seen and building relationships over time.

Because when you simplify your message and show up consistently, the right people start to find you and connect with what you’re saying.

This series is designed to help you strip away what isn’t working and focus on simple strategies that actually grow your business.

Over the past two decades:
Helped thousands of women start and grow profitable boutique-style coaching businesses with integrity and clarity.

When you commit to simple, consistent action, your confidence builds, your visibility increases, and your results begin to compound.

Follow along for the rest of the series, and tell me in the comments what’s landing for you so far.

If social media feels like a full-time job, the job that you dread going to, you're in the right spot. If you're posting and you're stressing about what to say, you look at the numbers, the number of comments, likes, and you're like, none of this is even working Today I wanna reframe the whole thing because I think that most coaches are using social media wrong. So welcome back. I'm Debbie Shadid. I help women grow profitable boutique style coaching businesses without tech overwhelm, without living on social media and without spending money on paid ads. This is episode three of our five part marketing series. We've already talked about networking and email marketing, and today we're gonna dive into social media. Make sure you subscribe, hit the bell so you'll be notified for the next episodes. This is all part of my Profitable Coach framework. By the end of this series, you'll be able to create a full marketing plan. So let's talk about what social media actually is for coaches. I wanna start with this reframe because I think social media has become loaded with pressure, confusion, and comparison. Social media for coaches is not about going viral, and I do wanna challenge you because I bet you actually do like social media and I bet you're on it all the time. You're just not owning up to it. If you're over 50, there's a chance, maybe you haven't gotten all into social media, but if you have kids, if you have grandkids, I could just almost guarantee that you're on it. I wanna point out to you that social media is where you should be because the next time you go out to dinner. Look around the restaurant and look and see how many people have their phone out and have it in front of them. You might not like the idea of that, but in reality, if you want to be where the world is, it is on social media. So let's talk about why you should be there and what it would look like. Free you to be there.'cause I want it to be simple. I want it to feel more effortless. Social media is just about visibility. It's a way for you to get seen, and I love to tell people it's the way for the world to see you. What other advertising reaches the world? Literally, you guys think about that. You have access to every corner of the world. There is nothing else like that. So when you understand that and you start thinking about that way, it's like. Oh, okay. Maybe I should be paying attention to social media. Yeah, you should be paying attention to it. So you don't have to entertain anyone. You don't have to try to convince anyone. What you do wanna think about though is that whatever you are struggling with, I can guarantee you there's lots of people struggling with the same thing. If you have achieved success in something. You could be exactly what somebody needs and is actually searching for. So they could be sitting there watching TV like I do with my husband, and he's watching TV and I'm scrolling on my phone looking at social media and something comes up that I think, oh wow. Like how it's reading my mind. How did it know that I wanted this thing? That's what happens when you have yourself out there sharing what it is that you know the most about. Eventually you'll connect with somebody like me where I'm like, boy, how did they know? I was just thinking about that. So social media, that's the way you make that happen. It should be at the top of what I'm gonna call your marketing funnel. Now, I don't talk about funnels very often, but think about it. It's the first way that somebody engages with you. Either you're networking, which again is just talking to people about what you do. It's not selling, it's just talking to people. Either you've met somebody that way or you have met somebody. On social media through scrolling. By the way, when you go network with somebody, I always tell our clients the first thing you should do is connect with people on social media, because my name, for example, Debbie Shadid, there's a lot of Debbie Shadid. There's one that lives a mile from me with the same name. She's almost the same age. So make sure you connect on social media. You're connecting with the right person, strangers that you meet in certain places, that is actually how they become warm. So if you've met 'em, you know, at the gym, at the yoga studio you connect with on social media, they feel like they start to know you. Think about it, that's been the case for you as well. I know for me, I get to know people. I think, oh, you know, I really like that person that is building trust, that's building our relationship, even if you're not talking to them. So this is why I want you considering social media. I don't mean using paid ads. I'm talking about no boosted posts, no ads. I'm just talking about you going out there and meeting people and talking to 'em via social media, which is the lowest cost, really, you guys. Social media costs nothing, and you can even schedule it for free. So you don't need a budget, you don't need a team. What you need is to be consistent and clear with the message that you are putting out there into the world. Your potential clients, I guarantee you, they're on social media. They're scrolling while they're having their morning coffee. They're on their phones in bed, they're in Facebook groups. I know you guys think Facebook groups don't work either. That is just not true. Go search and see how many Facebook groups there are on your topic. You're gonna be blown away. They're looking for someone like you. Even YouTube is social media. People are coming here looking to connect with people. There's YouTube shorts that is social media, Consistency is going to be the key here. You don't have to be perfect. There doesn't have to be any production in it. Consistency is what you need because the algorithm is in charge of who sees what you are showing, and just because you posted doesn't mean that all the right people saw it. In fact. I don't see half of what my clients post. Which is why you've got to post more often. How do you make it so that you can post more often? Well, the first thing is that you have to be comfortable with what you're talking about. Your message is going to be the connection point between you and the person that you want to meet. You know you want to follow you, you want to engage with you. Do you know what your message is? This is probably the most important thing that I'm saying in this entire episode. This is something that many coaches do not understand, is how do they talk about their coaching. Your social media content, it is your marketing message in action. Yes, you use it on your website, you use it when you network. You use it in every single marketing strategy that you do. Do you know who you help? That might be the very problem that is keeping you from creating a marketing message. You have niche drama. Get over that. Figure out who you help. Make a decision. Know what the problem is, know what your transformation is, know how to help them, and you can create an endless supply of content. Every single post is just a different angle on the same core message. You don't have to reinvent every single thing. Because I study marketing, I am blown away sometimes at how many YouTube videos are almost exactly the same from the same person. Do you know why they are? It's because they saw that people were interested in that topic, and so they just did another one. The same way with social media. Go look at your insights. You'll see what posts are resonating and do more of that. So when coaches tell me they don't know how to post, I'm like, look, you can go watch a video anywhere. We do teach people how to do that specifically. I get it. It's intimidating it, but it is so much easier than you're making it. If you don't know how to use Canva than skip Canva, if you don't know how to do that. You don't have to do it. Okay. I do wanna invite you to click the link in the comments. I'm gonna share with you a Canva training that is a complete how to training. I'm also got some graphics down there that you can use. I actually teach you how to update the graphics in the Canva training, so that could set you on your way. If you're intimidated about putting your face out there, then use the graphics and watch the training that I'm gonna link below. But honestly, the easiest way to get on social media is to just record yourself. And by the way, you're recording yourself on your phone. Chances are you've done a video on your phone so you can delete it. If you don't like it, you can re record yourself again and again. If I was gonna show you my camera roll right now, you might see 15 takes of two or three videos. That were social media posts that I just kept redoing until I found one that I liked, and that's the one that I favorited and shared. So you've got to know your niche, your client's pain points, the transformation, your process, their beliefs, all of those things. You gotta know what you help 'em overcome, what your clients are gonna have resistance around. When you know those things, you can create months of content, in fact, years of content, then you can repurpose it over and over again. So social media is another relationship building tool. When people tell me that nobody's commenting or liking their stuff, I'm like, well, were you social on social media? You have to be social so people will be social with you. So please get involved on social media. Engage in posts, like posts, comment, find two or three accounts that are aligned with what you do, and get to be friends with those people. Engage in what they are doing. There's a high chance their followers will engage with you. So Your a potential client. When they see you and they know that you know what they're talking about, they just feel seen. They feel like they're not alone anymore in the problem that they have. Social media, you guys gives people the ability to connect just like that. One single post could help somebody say, wow, like that person really gets me. You know she touched me right in the heart. I need to connect with her. And you can do that through your link in your bio. So it is a phenomenal way that is being overlooked. I want you to decide, I'm gonna be on social media because somebody needs to hear what I have to say. I'm going to be on social media because it is a gateway to the world. I'm not gonna do it well in the beginning 'cause I don't know how to do it, But I will get better as I go. I just started on TikTok, you guys, and I don't know when you're gonna be listening to this, but please go follow me on TikTok and I just decided, okay, I'm just gonna learn how to do it. I didn't watch any videos. I just got on there and recorded myself. And I am learning how to do it as I go. I am not trying to be perfect. I'm just learning as I go, and that's what I recommend. One thing I want you to know is you should start with one platform That is literally what I recommend to our clients. One platform where you post consistently with a clear message. Honestly, that will grow your business so much faster than you going in all the places and doing it poorly. Also, do not over commit. I want you there consistently, and I want you there every single day. But don't be like, okay, I'm going all in. I'm going three times a day. You will not do it and you'll just quit the whole thing. So find the platform that works best for you and that will work best for your clients because the platform that works best for you is the one that you will actually post on sometimes that is even your personal Facebook page. Alright, that is it you guys. Make sure that you subscribe. Make sure you hit the bell so that you get the notification on the other episodes that are coming. This is episode three of our five part series. I can't wait to hear what's happening for you. Make sure you click in the comments there. Is that Canva training and the graphics that you can utilize as well. That is it. Social media is not about a performance. You're not gonna get a grade. It's just about visibility. It's about connection. It is about building relationships, building trust, helping people feel like they know you. Alright, go have a beautiful day and we'll see you in the next episode.
