EP 331 - How Clients Find You on YouTube - Part 5/5 Marketing Series

What if one video you record today could bring you a client months… or even years from now?

In Part 5 of this 5-part free marketing series, I’m breaking down why YouTube might be one of the most powerful long-term strategies you can use to grow your coaching business.

Because unlike social media, your content doesn’t disappear.
It keeps working for you.

If you’re new to my channel, my name is Debbie Shadid. I’m a Business Growth and Life Coach and the founder of the Business Building Boutique. For over two decades, I’ve helped women build simple, profitable coaching businesses without relying on tech overwhelm, paid ads, or complicated funnels.

In this final episode, I’ll show you how YouTube helps you get discovered, build trust at scale, and create content that continues to bring in clients over time.

You’ll walk away knowing:

  • why YouTube works differently than social media (and why that matters)

  • how your videos can bring in clients long after you post them

  • why consistency matters more than perfection when getting started

  • how YouTube builds trust faster by helping people spend more time with you

YouTube is not just content.
It’s a library that works for you 24/7.

Because when someone searches for a solution and finds your video, they’re already looking for help and that’s when your business starts to grow in a much more predictable way.

This series was designed to show you that you don’t need complicated strategies to grow your coaching business.

You need simple, proven ways to:

  • connect with people,

What if you recorded a video today and it brought you a client two years from now, what if somebody who had never heard of you typed in a question in the search bar and found a video, watched it, and decided you were exactly the coach they were looking for? That is not a fantasy. That is YouTube. And I can tell you from my own experience that is exactly how it works. And today. I'm gonna tell you why every coach needs to understand this platform. First, let me say, welcome back. I'm Debbie Shadid, so glad you are here. I help women over 50 build and grow profitable boutique style coaching businesses without tech overwhelm, without paid ads, and without living on social media. This is episode five of our five part marketing series. When you're done with this episode, make sure you go back and watch the other ones. Each one builds on itself. Today we're gonna be talking about YouTube, but I talked about networking, social media, email marketing, and workshops. All of those are pieces of how you market your business. If you have not watched those, please go back and watch those. I first wanna start by talking about YouTube and just helping you see that you are ready for it. You might have the idea that like, no I'm not good at it, or nobody's gonna watch me because I'm too old and I know I'm 61. I'm too old, but here's the deal. YouTube is not just young creators. In fact, the fastest growing segment of YouTube is 50 plus. I've done some research and I know that to be the case, so you don't have to feel intimidated about being there. And guess what? They don't have any fancy equipment. I'm filming on my camera, on my computer, but you don't need any equipment other than that. So I am gonna link my camera, my microphone, and my light that I use. Those are three things that you might wanna utilize. I will also share at the end the tools that I use. So YouTube is not just a social media platform because there are shorts, but it is also a search engine. This is a key piece you need. to Consider it's the second largest search engine right behind Google. YouTube videos show up in Google searches as well, and that means that when somebody types a question in Google will go to YouTube and find the answer. Think about what that means for your coaching business. Every video that you record is a piece of content that can be discovered by somebody who's just actively searching for an answer. On something that you may have already recorded, so it's not like somebody just happening to go by and find your social media posts that literally goes away. That will not be seen. Again. Your YouTube videos will be seen every time somebody searches for what it is that they are looking for if you happen to have a video on it. So if you've got videos that give solutions that give real value, if you become the person they trust. In that space, my goodness, your business is gonna grow. And that is what YouTube is for. It is the training ground where you educate people on what you do, how you think, and why your approach works. And it keeps working long after you hit publish on one video. So here's the thing, social media, again, lives for a few hours. You work hard to create some piece of content. You know what you do on YouTube? You show up today, you record it, you've got an outline. You can do it how you want to, you can script it if you want to, or you can use bullet points. I create an outline with a full script. I write it out, and then I make it through bullet points. I go through it, I read it. Sometimes I record it, and then I record it again. Whatever needs to happen, I get better at it as I go, and you will too. But it is an incredible thing that you put up there and it will live there. For years, I've had people who come to consultation calls who have said they have watched dozens and dozens of video, and they know exactly what my framework is. They know what I think about, comfortable conversations. They know what I think about pricing, about branding. Honestly, it blows my mind. I have also had people who have watched one video. Gotten on a consultation with me and bought and paid in full in the same day. No kidding. So sometimes people watch all the videos, sometimes they watch one. They're like, that is the lady that I need. But if you're not over there, none of this can happen for you. So YouTube also creates a library. Every video can be a different topic. It can be a library that teaches the breadth of what it is that you do. You know what else is interesting? It can be a library of a bunch of videos on the same thing, not the same video, but I could talk to you guys about niche. I could make dozens of videos on niche, and every time somebody searches niche, all those videos would come up. Here's something else that I really want you to hear and really understand. There's this research that was done by Google and it talks about how you build trust with somebody today in today's marketplace in all kinds of businesses, not just coaching. It's called the 7 11 4 rule. The idea is that before somebody will make a purchase with you, they actually need to engage with you seven hours. Across 11 different touchpoint. So they have to see you 11 different times in four separate locations. This is a brand new study that is done by Google, seven hours, 11 touchpoints, four locations. Think about this for a moment. If you're on social media, how long does the social media last? 30 seconds. Maybe they scroll by and it's three seconds. When you get somebody on a YouTube video that you've recorded for an hour or 15 minutes, like these are, all the videos in this series are about 15, 20 minutes max. Think how fast that adds up a single video. If somebody watches five, now we're talking about they've watched you for hour and a half. That is a huge impact compared to social media. Seven hours, they can cross that threshold so much quicker. So this is why I am loving YouTube And what's interesting is sometimes the longer format videos, even a couple hours are being viewed. And getting really good results on YouTube. So you'll have to look based on your niche to find out what is actually working for you, because the depth of what you are going to do on the video will be different compared to each niche and honestly compared to your comfort level and how much time and availability you have. I have to mention that consistency is another key piece here. If you go look at people who've been successful on YouTube. What they will tell you is that they posted one time a week every single week. Occasionally they got up to where they were posting two times or three times, but it was unsustainable. So one time a week, by the time they script it, they edit it, they promote it, they get it all set up, is really what you can do as somebody who is new and just getting started on YouTube. Let's talk for a moment how YouTube can be the training ground for your coaching. And I also wanna mention to you in a moment how you can utilize YouTube to store all of your videos, because that's another very interesting plus. But imagine this, you can organize your ideas into playlists. Yeah, you can make playlists, so you could have, again, a whole niche playlist, or I could have a playlist that goes through the exact steps of my program where I teach a snippet of exactly everything that I do in each of our 12 foundational steps. Something like that. You can create a playlist. So it creates an incredible opportunity for you to do the training that people are looking for. Again, training that's gonna wet their appetite to what it is that you are an expert at. Another really cool thing that I gotta mention to you is I have a thousand videos on YouTube and people might think thousand videos. How'd she get that many? My replays have been on YouTube in playlist because it is free. YouTube is free, you guys. so I have many. Replays from coaching calls that are on YouTube and they're unlisted, and then all I do is I give the playlist to our clients and they're able to watch all of the replays from YouTube and the public can't see 'em. I've also had courses on there again, cost me nothing compared to Kajabi, which is what I use now. YouTube is free. So you can host your podcast there. You can host your replays there. You can host training series there. You can even have unlisted series that people opt into. I had a four part private podcast that you could opt into and get an unlisted link where somebody could watch the four different key elements to building a profitable coaching business. These are all ways that you can utilize. YouTube, you can show your potential client why they wanna work with you. You can help 'em see your personality. You can help 'em learn from you, your channel. We'll tell people you are serious about what you're doing. If you are consistent, it's gonna show people that you know your stuff, that you're willing to show up and give real value before they ever pay you a dime. So I know what some of you guys are thinking right now. I don't like being on camera. I don't know how to do this. I'm gonna call you out because all of us know how to use Zoom, and that is what you can use record on Zoom. You can actually record with your computer, laptop with the camera that's on there with the microphone that's there, and it will look great. A couple of quick things I'll just tell you. If you upgrade to a better camera, which I will leave linked in the show notes and a better microphone, it creates a better experience. But start where you are. I heard somebody the other day that was using an iPhone 12 She had it set up and that's what she was using for her YouTube recordings. There is always a way to do something simpler without spending money. So if you have a computer, you have a YouTube studio, and you could actually edit for free in many different ways. but I actually recommend that you invest in Descript That is the editing software that I use. Oh my goodness, you guys, it makes it so easy to edit I have all the words that I say like that, that I need to cut out. It actually highlights all those filler words and you can just delete 'em. The editing that you can do with Descript is unbelievable. You can also make all the clips. From your YouTube video using Descript. So again, there is an affiliate link. You can use it to save some money. there's a couple of other tools that I want to mention. One is called Tube Buddy and the other one is called Vid iq. Both of those are different things that I subscribe to that I have used to help get keywords that I might wanna use. To create a title or that are the most search key terms for my niche, or it could help me write an episode. I don't actually use it that way it can look and tell me if my thumbnails, the actual cover of my video is good. Those tools, I will leave in the show notes as well, but just know this, you can start your YouTube journey. And you can do it with a computer and nothing else, and you literally can start making money. At this point in my business, I am getting more consultations booked from YouTube than anything else, and I rarely say schedule a conversation with me. Rarely, I would say one in 10 videos do I mention that, but people watch the video and they're like, I wanna connect with Debbie and the last three people in a row. All bought from me three days in a row while I was off work, and they knew me because of YouTube. So if that's not enticing for you, I don't know what else to tell you. I want you to see. Now I have given you the path to marketing your business. We talked about networking, email marketing, social media workshops, and now YouTube. This is the way you build your business for free. You start with one. And you add on another and add on another. This is where you can build your authority. You can get subscribers to follow you. You can build your email list by having opt-ins in the comments. Boy. YouTube right now, as I mentioned, has been one of the most fun things I've ever done, and I can tell you it is growing my business faster than anything else right now. So connect with me. Make sure you're following me. Subscribe. Hit the bell so you're notified and utilize, and be sure to check out the resources that I had before and just go do it. You guys go do it. Record a video, post it and get started. All right? have a beautiful day. I really wanna challenge you. Take what you have learned in this five part series and put it into practice. Start building your business. The world needs what you have. Every single one of these is about building relationships and getting connected with people and building trust. Alright, go have a beautiful day, but tell me in the comments what your favorite thing was that you've learned in this series. And I will see y'all very soon. Bye-bye.
