EP 382 - Why AI Is Actually the Best Thing to Happen to Your Coaching Business

If you've been wondering whether AI is going to replace what you do as a coach, I watched something happen this week that changed how I think about that completely. It shifted my perspective to see how AI is actually the best thing to happen to your coaching business.

AI is actually the best thing to happen to your coaching business. Discover why this tech shift creates a massive opportunity.

Many coaches fear that automation will replace their work, but the reality is quite different. During the recent Design Live Thrive Summit, it became clear that AI for coaches is not shrinking the industry; it is actually widening the gap for human connection. This shift creates a massive opening for those ready to claim their space.

Building a boutique coaching practice requires you to lean into your unique value. By focusing on your specific audience and naming the problems they face, you stand out more effectively than ever. This approach ensures your coaching business remains relevant, personal, and highly impactful in an automated world.

Your coaching career depends on your ability to show up decisively. When you get specific about who you serve, you create a stronger business growth strategy that resonates with your ideal clients.

TRANSCRIPT

Yesterday, I watched a room full of coaches realize something, something that you probably are aware of too. In fact, I think it might be the biggest opportunity that we've had. Hi there. I'm Debbie Shadid. I help women over fifty build beautiful boutique-style coaching businesses. Today, I wanna talk to you about something that I saw over the last twenty-four hours with all of these incredible coaches who were attending the first day of our Design Live Thrive Summit. These were coaches who were there to build their businesses right now. And what I saw yesterday in two different rooms was where I believe the industry is headed. Everybody is talking about AI right now. There's a lot of conversations about what is taking away jobs, hours, but I would say it is taking away connection. Here's what I actually saw that was happening. People are using AI to process personal stuff now too. They're using it for accountability. They're using it for what I teach, which is called my Take Five practice. And on the surface, all of that looks like AI is closing the gap where coaches fit in, but what I know is that's not true. What is actually happening is the gap is widening. There is not a gap in information, but there is a gap in human connection. Because the more time someone spends typing their problems into the screen, the more they crave someone across from them who actually knows and understands them, who remembers what they said last week, who can look into their eyes and see what they are not saying. I watched that happen last night. I opened up a session last night for coaches who wanted to just sit down and talk. We talked about how AI was impacting their life and so many other people's lives, and especially in business, right? People are not starving for information because, as I mentioned in my summit talk yesterday to coaches, information is right at their fingertips. Nobody needs to create a course anymore because you can go to ChatGPT and get your own course. What people are really starving for, and these coaches in both sessions agreed yesterday, they're starving for connection. They're starving for someone who could actually be with them. So that's not a threat for coaching. What that is, is a shift that we all need to pay attention to. Now, I'm all about marketing. That's what we're here to learn about, how do we get coaching clients? I really believe marketing has completely changed, more this year than ever. I've been at this since 2000, and I've been telling you that the path to clients is shorter than ever. It is easier to launch your business than ever. It is easier to be found, which means the possibility in front of you right now is bigger than ever. But bigger possibility doesn't mean easier decisions. It actually means the opposite. When there is so much noise, there's so much access, there is so much AI-generated content flooding every feed, Your only job gets simpler and harder at the same time. Your job is to be decisive about who you're talking to. That's the very first thing. Be more decisive about who you're talking to. You don't wanna be talking to everyone, not a broad, safe, nobody gets offended version of your ideal client. You wanna be talking to one specific person with one specific problem, and the problem is, is that you keep speaking over everybody else's head, and you don't even recognize that you're doing that. Here's why I think coaches get stuck. They think that their job is to convince people that coaching works. That's not it. Your job is to keep naming their problem. This is really marketing gold. Your job is to talk to one person about one thing and continue to name that problem. the health struggle that nobody fixes with willpower, that's what you're supposed to talk about. That money situation that keeps repeating itself, no matter how many budgets they've tried. The relationship pattern they can see clearly in everyone else's life but their own. You name the problem out loud over and over in a way that's specific enough that your client goes, "Wait a minute, I think she's talking to me." And then you show her how coaching is the bridge from where she is to where she wants to be. That's it. That's the whole job. Name the problem clearly enough and often enough And you be the person who shows her the way through it. Here's what else I know. You must be willing to put yourself out there consistently until the right person finally hears you at the right moment. This is our job today, is to show up authentically, to be out there talking about things in a human way so we can prove that we are not AI. How many times people said to me in the last few days, "Is this AI content?" No. Right? We've gotta prove that we really are humans. This actually fits the same framework that I taught at our summit, the Design Live Thrive Summit for Women, and it works the same way in business. Design it, get out a piece of paper and be very specific about who you're serving, what you are actually selling her. Do not be vague, be specific, and then live it. That means showing up and speaking to her, your ideal client, every single day, even before you feel ready, even before you feel like an expert. You point your mind and your content at her on purpose and allow the algorithm to do its job, and let everything else out there Just be noise that you don't pay attention to. You get focused on designing it and living in it. And the third step is to thrive in it. Not thrive as a coach who has it all figured out, but thrive as the version of you who has decided her marketing doesn't need to be complicated, who trusts that the path to the client really is shorter, who really believes that the work that she needs to do in the world and that she's determined to do, that she's capable of doing it, that it is going to work and change the world. Here's what I want you to take from this one. The gap in human connection is not closing. I believe it is widening every single day, and that gap is exactly where your coaching business lives, but it can only live there if you are decisive. The possibilities for you are unlimited, but you have to be brave enough to keep talking about it, to keep putting yourself out there over and over until the right person hears you. You have to be brave enough to make decisions that will separate you from AI. You might have heard me talk about coaching women fifty plus. Do you know why I made that decision? Thirteen months ago, I decided I'm gonna beat AI in their own game, and I'm gonna say I coach women over fifty because I am narrowing my audience even more than I already have. I coach new coaches who are terrible at tech, who are scared about being visible, They don't love social media. All they wanna do is get clients. They wanna have a business that looks professional. They wanna be seen as professionals. And then I added in this layer of women fifty plus. This is how you beat AI. You become so decisive in who you are talking to and what the problem is, you actually narrow in your opportunity, which actually widens it. I know it sounds crazy, but think about it. Your job is to be decisive about who you're talking to. Be brave enough to keep talking until she hears you. If this hits something for you, tell me in the comments what's coming up. I wanna know, what is the one problem that you keep explaining over and over to your person that you know you're meant to serve? The more you explain this problem, the better you will get at explaining it. Putting yourself out there is not easy. I know this. We had this conversation yesterday twice too, right? Both groups that I met with, we talked about how uncomfortable it is, especially for a woman over 50 who wants to get it right, who wants to look good. It's not something that we're all accustomed to. And somebody mentioned yesterday, we're taught to fear strangers when we were kids. In our generation, that's what we talked about, don't talk to a stranger, and now we're supposed to put ourselves out on the internet to a bunch of strangers. Well, my friend, that is the way that we grow businesses. That's how we have to be brave and have courage enough and have that why that makes you cry to get over all that and put ourselves out there. So if you wanna keep building this muscle, hit Subscribe. If you wanna keep learning how to do this, if you wanna be encouraged and inspired to take action and to really step into what is possible for you as a coach, then stick around. I'm gonna be doing a whole run of mindset episodes about expansion and about rapid reinvention, and it all starts with this simple idea that there is so much possibility for you. We gotta put on the thinking cap of, like, there's a lot of possibility out there, and it's possible that I could be wildly successful. You find the thought that fits you. I wanna encourage you to grab the Take 5 Guide for Coaches, debbieshadid.com/take5, the number five. Grab that guide. It is a daily mindset method, five questions in five minutes in the morning and in the evening to just help you stay on track, to keep your mind in check, to keep focused on the goal, and to keep walking in that direction that you know you are meant to do. The world needs what you have to offer. Be decisive, put yourself out there, and go fill the gap, this human connection gap. All right, my friend, so much love to you. We will talk to you very soon. Have a beautiful day. Bye-bye.
