Debbie: Welcome to the podcast. I am excited to introduce you to two of my clients. I'm gonna have them introduce themselves and we're going to be talking about marketing. So if you guys have been around, I have done an eight-part series on marketing where we have been talking about everything from your niche to email marketing, to gosh, opt-ins, to all the things that I teach my clients.

And I wanted to bring on a couple of people that are really good at social media. It seems to be effortless. Both Greta and deedee seem to be able to do it well without a lot of drama, and it definitely has created results for their business. So, Greta, why don't you introduce yourself first and then, I'll let Deedee introduce herself and then we'll dive into social media.

Gretta: Thanks, Debbie. Nice to be here. I'm Greta Orazen. I'm a coach for people who are overwhelmed with all the things that are going on in their life, and they're probably caught in a cycle of overthinking, and I help them with that.

Debbie: All right. All right, Deedee.

Dede: Hello, Debbie. Nice to be here. I am Deedee Anderson.I'm a proud mom and soon-to-be grandmother. Not sure if you knew that, Debbie. I'm so excited

Debbie: I didn't. So fun.

Dede: I coach, yes, I coach women who seemingly have everything in air quotes, the American dream life, but they still feel unfulfilled. So like our brains were designed just to survive. And I coached my clients how to turn surviving into thriving.

Debbie: Oh my gosh. Both of these niches. For you guys listening, are you shaking your heads and saying, you know, that's me on both these cases, so, so good. All right, let's talk then. Greta, I'll start with you. Let's talk about, social media just in general. You seem to have, um, an effortless way of creating your social media posts, coming up with content.

Tell me, first of all, do you have drama about social media?

Gretta: So I would say I don't have a ton of drama around social media, although I think I used to. And you know, I'm the overwhelmed coach and overthinking coach for a reason, and that is that I am well versed in overthinking. And so I coach myself all the time on Just trying new things, having fun with it, and not getting into a cycle of overthinking and getting overwhelmed with it. So I think that might be part of why it might seem effortless, but I just have fun with it and try new things.

Debbie: I want you guys to follow Greta. I will leave the link in the show notes for you to follow her. You can kind of see what she's doing. but she does reels, she does post, she does all of the things. So tell me what you think as of April and 2023, what do you think is working for you in social media right now?

Gretta: So I think part of what's working is my belief that it's working because it's not always obvious on social media. People are following you, but they're not really following you. They're listening, but they're not commenting. And this happens to me all the time where I'm thinking like, hello, is there anybody out there? And then someone will come and comment to me in a different sphere, maybe through text or in person and tell me like, oh my God, I love that post that you made.

That's so me. so that's happened to me quite a bit. So what's working is just to keep doing it for one thing. also I think one of the thing that's working is my newfound consistency with it. habits is one of my words for 2023. And Debbie, you've helped me a lot because I think, when I started working with you, I had thought and rethought my niche quite a few times before I came to work with you and, you know, made a logo, had some color ideas, and I was always in a spin about it, but getting my branding locked in, my message locked in and all of that is essential, in being able to be consistent with your social media because I already know what I'm talking about.

I already know how I'm going to lay it out in social media. and I've made a spreadsheet that has a monthly theme and then an emphasis for each week. So it's already thought out ahead of time and I just need to execute. So that helps me stay out of that overwhelm and be consistent.

Debbie: Okay. She just made a whole bunch of good points that, I love this.

I wasn't thinking about any of these things, but what you've mentioned, first of all, to have your branding done and to know what it is you're going to create like we're not going back and reinventing anything. You're doing things that consistently look the same. And then we do work on creating kind of like an idea bank so that you're consistently talking about the same topics, which is really how you build a brand, how you became known for something. So those are excellent points and Greta is a tracker. I admire that about her. In fact, she's gonna come to our group coaching and teach us about that tomorrow.

Do you wanna talk about your tracking a little bit, what do you track and what has been the benefit for you?

Gretta: So I track, um, you know, how many sales, how many consults, how much money I've made, and I do it monthly. but I also track my social media and visits to my website. So this is part of, you know, I have a brain that is.

In my former life as a math teacher, we have a T-shirt and it says, of course, I have problems. I'm a math teacher, so my brain is wired to solve problems. It's there to see problems, and I can easily forget the successes. Very, very easily. So the tracking is something that really helps me to, I can look back and go like, oh, look at the progress that I'm making, look at how things are growing.

And that kind of keeps me out of that overwhelm because again, I can see like, oh, I'm doing some good stuff here and it's starting to gain some traction. So I love that aspect of tracking. So, yeah.

Debbie: Well, I think that's true because when you least expect it, something starts to work. So, alright, we'll revisit with you Greta, with a couple other details that I wanna ask you about.

But Deedee let's talk about your social media.

Dede: Okay.

Debbie: So I think you do a great job. I think you show up in what looks like a really effortless way. How did you get started doing social media? What's the drive behind it? Kind of share a little bit about that.

Dede: Okay. cuz I was just thinking in my head as Greta was talking, I'm the exact opposite of Greta.

Debbie: Yeah, you are. That's what I was thinking too. Yeah.

Dede: It's so funny. But like, I think whenever social media became easy to me is when I realized I didn't have to have content. When I could just show up and talk about what was going on in my life, what I was dealing with, and find a way just to relate it back to what would be beneficial for my clients.

And that's when my whole social media changed completely. And I do, I love the branding. I love that I can really talk about anything, but it has the same look on every single post, and it's just, yeah. So that's, that's been really good. And it seems effortless now for one, because I have a thought that this i s so easy now that I don't have to have content. Right? Like Yeah. And then you talked about the evidence bank. And I do that as well in a completely different way. So I have an app on my phone just called Transcribe, I think it's called. And as things are going on during the day, I was like, Ooh, this would so relate to someone.

I'll just put a little voice note in and then I go back later and then I'm just like, oh yeah, I wanted to talk about this. And. And I found that going on and speaking is so much easier than coming up with something to say in a post. And so that's another way it's become effortless for me, is to show up and talk.

Yeah. And I used to be deathly afraid of public speaking and like that's just, you know, you'd kind of ask like, if we had any advice for, for anyone, and that's it. Just show up, good or bad. And then the more you do it, the better you get at it. And the funner it becomes, we think, oh, it'll just get easier. But it becomes more fun too.

Debbie: Yeah. I would agree with you on the writing part for if you're hung up and so many people are hung up on like, how do I write and what do I say? Just give yourself a break and decide to be on video instead of trying to write something. I, I agree. I think it's much easier to do that.

Dede: Well, and it started out too, like just even using that transcribe app is like just speaking it. Because whenever I sit down to write it, I think I have to come up with the best words in this where if I can just speak it first makes it so much easier then to translate it into a text or you know, something that I wanna post that way too.

Debbie: Oh, that's interesting. So do you ever look at your insights? You do? Okay. Well, you know some,

Dede: I mean, nothing like Greta, don't get me wrong. Yeah. Like if it posts up, I'm like, oh, what is that? And yeah, to see the arrows going up since I've shown up on social media in a live way is insane. Like 3000% or something.

I've gone up, it's, it's crazy.

Debbie: Okay. Share the details to that so people know exactly what you have done because that's why I asked that question. It's like mind blowing of what has happened. So tell us what you've done.

Dede: Yes. So basically what how I got started was for one, Greta said she had a word Of the year, which was habit. My word of the year, which I never classified as a word of the year, but what I am really sticking to is the word intention, right? I have the intention, so I set an intention for myself that I'm just gonna show up live on social media. And I've done that every day and literally 3000%, my viewings, my insights all have gone up just by showing up.

So, and for me it was easier on TikTok for some reason, I've never done really much on TikTok, but I'm like, oh, this is just kind of fun. It started out, cuz I got some new dogs and did some TikTok, so I'm like, this is easy. So there was the thought, right, that like this could work in my business too. And so yeah, I just started there and then I shared the TikToks to Instagram and Facebook, which I know there's probably a lot about that too with the TikTok logo. But it's working and my audience is growing and it's creating. Foot traffic around my posts that I want.

Debbie: Okay, so let's just make note of what else she just said, which is you can get into the nitty gritty details of exactly how to do social media, which would be to remove the logo of TikTok before you share it.

Or you can just do it like people ask me, well, yeah, but shouldn't I this or shouldn't I that? And I'm like, well, okay. Maybe you should but are you going to do that? And will that, like, if that was me, Deedee, it would prevent me from doing the TikTok and sharing it because I would think, well, I can't take the time.

Like I have to take the logo off before the, you know how that is like then now you're not doing something. So it's better to just do it. Yeah. Then, to not do it. And that has really been, helpful. So talk about the what it is you're doing in each one of these daily posts recently.

Dede: So my big push here is like to teach other people. If you set an intention and you learn how to trust yourself, and you go out and you just do something every day, that, that creates trust with yourself and it just makes it so much easier to do that going forward. So that's what each of these talks are about. I go out and I walk. I'm getting 40 minutes of exercise every day, and on that walk I just do my do my TikTok and it's amazing. And everyone gets to see how much snow we still have in north Dakota.

Debbie: Uh, that is right. So you guys have to go look at her again. I'll leave her links, below where you guys can follow her. But every day that I watch that Post of her walking in the snow, I am like, oh my word.

She literally has a mask on with just her eyes showing because it is so cold and there is so much snow, and she's outside walking. Anyway, I'm like, this is a good deal.

Dede: Yeah, and the comments I've gotten, like, you know, you're such an inspiration and I mean, that's the whole point of doing it, right?

Yep. It's, it's not to get more clients, it's like, who can I reach? Who can I help today? And I think once you change that mind shift a little bit about where your post isn't about getting people to come. It's like, what can I offer someone? It feels a lot more natural and a lot more enjoyable and fun to do.

Debbie: Yeah. Yeah. alright, so, Greta and Deedee both, I wanna talk to you about something that you guys did on your social media that has created a result for you. So, Greta, do you wanna share specifically about your post in December? I think it was.

Gretta: Sure. I, posted an offer of two sessions for $65, which is, amazing.

Yeah. Yeah. In December, so people could buy a gift certificate for someone else. I had, printed gift certificates or they could just do it virtually. it's interesting, I had two people who follow me. They happen to be married and they Saw my post, One of them decided to go inside the house and while they were inside the house, they bought for their spouse while the other one who was outside also got on and bought for her spouse.

Debbie: So funny.

Gretta: So that was really interesting. But I got a few clients from that and um, you know, I think I was surprised. A lot of people who coach coaches say that December's a great time to book clients. And I, I wasn't sure that that would be the case, but it was for me. I had a couple other people take advantage of that offer as well.

And I'm reaching people who aren't necessarily familiar with coaching. So I thought it was a nice, easy way for them to get the experience or share it with someone else. So I was really happy that I did that.

Debbie: All right. And in particular, one of the people who bought that package out to buy more coaching from you, and it looks like that's really opened an unexpected door for you.

Gretta: Yes. It did, it turned into a lot more. And this person is like my ideal client. He's an educator. He was completely overwhelmed as many educators are right now with all the things. But, he's administrator and he runs a big school and he has a lot on his shoulders and he has a, a big family with young kids and everything was just, he's a confident guy.

He's an analytical guy. And he's found himself sort of in a space that felt really unfamiliar to him. Like, I'm usually so steady and calm and, and I'm just like anxious and I'm overwhelmed and I'm giving myself a pep talk before I go into work. so. With six weeks of coaching. He made amazing progress with that.

his mental health, he rated it when we started at a three, and by the time we ended, he said it was an eight. His career went from four to seven. And his relationships. This was kind of unexpected because we weren't particularly coaching on relationships, but his relationships went from four to eight.

So he had just so many positive outcomes in such a short time. we're talking about, doing something with his team at school because, he sees the value in these tools and I, I'm really excited about.

Debbie: So that is so, fantastic and no doubt that Greta can coach somebody very quickly and get, amazing results in a short amount of time.

But what's so fun about that, that I just want you guys to hear is that she wasn't trying to target this particular kind of person, but this offer reached this person and it turned into something that now as you said, actually is your ideal client that now is unfolding into something that you would've never imagined because you showed up on social media.

Gretta: Yeah, absolutely. You never know how it's gonna work, but things are at work. Yeah. even though you might not realize it. So it was really exciting.

Debbie: And I kind of remember that there was a little bit of drama about the, posting. The two for 65 you said. Right? Two for 65. Mm-hmm. Like it's not really working the way I wanted to, but in fact it did work.

Yeah. Maybe not exactly in the timing that you wanted it to, but it did work. And it never works like the same day that we do it, but it worked and it's continued to work for you.

Gretta: Yeah. And additionally I did on the side, uh, exchanged gift certificates with a coach friend of mine. So she sent me two certificates for two sessions with her to gift to people, and I sent two of my certificates to her.

And those have also had sort of an interesting ripple effect. So we did some, complimentary. sessions with a couple of clients and then those have also expanded and created some new relationships. So try everything.

Debbie: So good. Greta, thank you for sharing that. I wanna want you guys to know too, Greta works full-time, so her time for marketing, her business is more limited.

And I would say, all in all, you do social media. Not to say that you don't do email marketing, but you don't do very much of it. Am I right?

Gretta: Well, I started in January. I'll tell you, the summit that you hosted was amazing and I'm so happy that I continued on with you so that I could be part of that because you provided me with an audience and sort of a, it was like project-based learning is what we call it in education.

It was, a great experience and that kind of led. You know, sort of up my confidence. Now I have an audience. Okay, let me work in this new piece of, so I am doing weekly emails and I'm doing monthly workshops as a result of that. So, those have also led to some additional connections. So it's all

Debbie: I had forgotten about that. Greta, yes, I do know now that you're doing weekly. Yeah, that was fun because that summit helped you grow your email list by, was it 250 people? Something like that.

Gretta: Yeah. 300 ish.

Debbie: Yeah. So, super, super great. anyway, thanks for sharing all that. All right, Didi, let's talk about what you did on social media. You told me recently about one post that you did that created, a really interesting effect of long-standing business for you. Do you wanna share about that?

Dede: Absolutely. It's a story a lot like Greta's, I guess. so I had put a post out, so about creating achievable outcomes is what it's called. And that's kind of part of the whole NLP world, neurolinguistic programming.

Another thing that I do in my coaching and. I did them half price. So I put out a post that I was doing those sessions for half price. Normally 300. I was doing them for one 50, like this was like January timeframe, like you know, when you're trying to reach your goals, your resolutions, things like that. I had four people sign up for those.

So that was $150 for each of those sessions. And then one of the people that signed up for those sessions, Then after doing that session, I offered all of them to either work with me either for a six month or a year long, programs. She signed up for the six month program while we were like just partway through that.

Then she's like, ah, I'm also a business owner and I have employees that would benefit from this as well. So then she signed up some of her employees to be coached by me too. So from that one post on social media, I had four people sign up, but then I got four additional signups from that. You know, going down the chain.

Mm-hmm. And, uh, so yeah, that was, that was very, very good. Yeah. Just like show up one post and eight transactions from that one post.

Debbie: And where was that one post that you did? I think this is, that was Facebook That was on your personal page.

Dede: On my personal page, yes. 100%. And that's interesting that you say that, right?

Like, before I came into your program, I naively thought, oh, I'm gonna create, You know, coach page, you know, business page and run Facebook ads, which filled my calendar up of NoShow, right? Like no one showed up. I spent thousands of dollars on Facebook ads and didn't get a single client from it.

And, now since working with you, it's like every post that I put on my business page, I still do my business page, but I share every single one of them to my personal page, and that's where I get all of my, my foot traffic. All the people that are interested are from that.

Debbie: Yeah. Yeah. Well, thank you for sharing about the Facebook ads too, because I, I like to say you can build your business up to a hundred thousand dollars is kind of what I say, benchmark without ads because there is so much you have to learn before you can do the ads.

Like the ads have to be written in a way That's right. And all your other things have to line up with it. And you have to like so many things cuz you do just. Reach masses of people that wanna sign up for anything, which they were signing up for consultation calls.

Dede: Yeah. And that are not your ideal client because you don't know how to reach that ideal client yet.

Debbie: Yeah. Yeah. okay. Two fantastic stories about how, what you think you're doing sometimes isn't working, and yet it works in a way that you never expected. That's the real key thing that I want you guys to see about Greta and deedee is that both of them, first of all are what I call have loose fingers about social media.

They're not desperately trying to do it in a certain way. They're doing it in a way that works for them. They've worked on trying to figure out how to feel authentic and more at ease with it. They both created special offers on their social media. And I'll say again, Greta was doing, she is doing the email marketing now, but she did those offers prior to that.

and resulted in additional clients that, like the after effect of that, that really, made a significant difference in your business. All right. Anything else you guys wanna share about marketing or anything else that you feel like takeaways from our work together inside the business building boutique or whatever you want another coach to know about marketing or growing their business?

Yeah, go Didi.

Dede: Yeah, I will say something. So A hundred percent simplified everything that you've taught us. Cuz that's, I'm not a detail really oriented person, which I love that you give all that and then I just pull out what I need from it. Yeah, good. And so, which is what you teach us, right? Like I'm gonna show you all the things and you get to decide what you're gonna do with this.

That's right. So I've kind of just developed this three step process, very simplified, is I'm gonna post about the smallest thing I. Right. And that might be a free workshop. It might be one of these discounted, sessions, whatever it is. And then once I get them to that offer, then I'm going to tell them about the next thing that I have, which is either the six month or the v i p day that I have.

I have a v i P day that I work with clients. And then from that v i p day, then I'm gonna offer to work with me either on a six month or year long program. And so that's just the process that I use. It's like I'm not ever really posting about, oh, come. Sign up with me for this one year long process. I'm gonna get 'em into the funnel, let's say.

Right. And just the smallest thing to the biggest thing. And that seems to be working for me. And yeah, that's been really good. And then the other thing I wanted to say is, if I could give anyone advice, it's like if you don't know the how sign up for Debbie's program because she's gonna give you the how, right?

And then you can't hide behind how. Because I think that's, especially new coaches, they wanna hide behind the how. I don't know how to do it. I don't know how to do it. And so sign up, get the how, and then just show up. Right? Just show up. Good or bad, doesn't matter. The more you show up, the better you get at it.

And then always work on the mindset, which is another great part of your program, is you offer that as well, the mindset coaching and it's a win-win.

Debbie: You know, I say this, and I'll say it again, the difference between coaches who will actually build a business and the ones who don. The only difference is they keep going.

They keep trying even when they get zero results, and sometimes, I know you don't wanna hear this, but sometimes it takes weeks and months before you start to see any traction. And all the while you wanna change your niche and change your idea and change your offer, which none of that has anything to do with the traction that you'll eventually get. The only thing that creates that is consistently showing up and by the way, in a chosen place, in the same place consistently like you guys on social media, and doing it imperfectly. So that's, super great point. And I will add onto what deedee said, which is if you guys have come to know me through my Canva workshop, which is through a paid ad funnel.

I'm in a different place in my business, so I'm ready for that. But I will tell you, the paid ad doesn't get me the consultation. What gets me the consultation? Just like DeeDee's talking about sort of the steps of moving somebody through, kind of like a funnel. What gets me a consultation is then they come to one of my free trainings and after they see my free training, Then they sign up for a consultation.

So sometimes it's not exactly the first step of what you're doing, that, you know, engages somebody enough to a point where they'll say, I wanna talk to her. It's maybe the second or third layer of marketing. So, Anything else you wanna add?

Gretta: Yeah, I just wanted to say again, the consistency is huge, right?

James Clear, who wrote Atomic Habit says, your outcomes are a lagging measure of your habits. And so that always help. Like they're lagging, they're not gonna happen right now. Sometimes I can be really impatient, like it's not working, it's not working. So I've learned to kind of drop that. I love your program and I'm so grateful.

Everything that you've done for me, Debbie. The place that I am now compared to where I was before I started with you is like a complete 180. and I'm so glad I'm on this podcast because Deedee has given us some great stuff here. I know. and we always learn from each other, but I also love that you always have another idea, like, okay, that's not working.

Let's try this. Okay, let's try this. Have you thought about this? Have you thought about saying it differently? Have you thought about doing it differently? And all of that, that, idea generation. I find really helpful. Like it's not just like, do this one thing and keep doing it, doing it, doing it.

There's always something else we can try or incorporate. even the other day when we were, having our. session, you pulled up a slide about marketing. And to be honest with you, inside, I'm like, Ooh, like I've never considered myself a business person. I've been, I've had a career in education.

I don't like sell things. I don't market things. I don't, I don't know anything about business really. So even some of those words, so if people are out there, coaches are out there cringing at the word marketing, just substitute something else. Like how are you telling people. What you do, how are you telling them how they can work with you?

How are you telling them what coaching can do for them? So, don't overthink it. Just keep trying, don't overthink it, and that consistency is key and, working with you is also key. So thank you so much.

Debbie: That's okay. Thank you.

Dede: One more thing I wanted to add, Debbie, is one thing that you taught us is like putting our bio in places, right?

And mm-hmm. I've gotten three clients from the directory and the Life Coach school because I went and updated my bio and put information out there, which I didn't think was a big deal. I never even thought people looked at that, cuz I never did. Right. And I've gotten three clients from it. So it's just like showing up everywhere Right.

makes a huge difference. And whenever we say we don't know if things are working, I would've never in a millionaire thought that that was gonna give me a client ever. Mm.

Debbie: Ah, so good. Thank you for that. Yeah. well, you know, I do have a lot of experience in a lot of years, so I've seen, kind of what works and what doesn't.

But it is true that what we first have to do is a lot of things, and then we'll narrow down first of all what you like and what you feel comfortable with, cuz. There's no reason I say like, pushing the boulder up the hill. We don't need to do that. Like, let's find something that you feel comfortable that you can do that feels authentic.

more effortless if marketing can feel effortless, because you can't have a business. You guys, if you don't do marketing. There's no two ways about it. People do not show up unless they know about you. So, last thing I wanna mention about these two ladies is that both of these ladies extended their time with me.

And you might be thinking as I say that, that, that means they didn't get what they wanted from me in the first six months. And I'll say, I don't think that was true. one of the things that I say to people when they work with me, if you want to stick around. it's good because I know your business.

I know what you've tried, you know, my method and there's nobody else reintroducing a new idea to you, which sort of sometimes slows down the momentum that you've created. So I'm grateful to both of you guys that you did reinvest your money and your time with me so that we can continue on the same path that we were on, to continue to grow your business.

So, Thank you ladies for being here. I appreciate you both so very much. I guess my last word of advice to you coaches out there is go market your business consistently. Right. Just show up. That's right. Thank you. All right, Greta, thank you so much, Deedee. Thanks. You guys have, have an amazing week.

Yeah, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. All right. Talk to you soon. Bye-Bye
